Weight Loss Programs are big business for those selling the dream of weight loss, but are they as safe as they claim? Do the get real results? Are they right for you? We will provide some information that will be food for thought.

LA Weight Loss Program Problems

The LA weight loss program is probably the most popular slim-down program in the country today. Hollywood stars, including Whoopee Goldberg, have all tried the program and have confirmed that it is effective. What exactly comprises the program and is it really worth it?

Center-based program

The plan is a center-based program that has branches and offices in different parts of America. A potential client comes in and undergoes a free assessment. After which he or she gets weighed and a tailor-made, personal diet program will be handed out to him or her.

This type of program boasts of offering highly personalized diet programs that are guaranteed effective since it is made according to your specific body type lifestyle.

Expensive

Despite of its popularity, LA weight loss centers have been attacked for being too expensive, costing thousands of dollars. Plus, once you enroll in a center, you are required to purchase their products, such as calorie bars, diet plans, and other programs that are attached with your exercise regime.

Not surprisingly, there are already a number of centers that have been fined for overcharging and using false advertising claims.

Jenny Craig Weight Loss Program

The Jenny Craig weight loss program has been in existence for over 20 years now but only gained much needed buzz when celebrity Kirstie Alley—having lost about 100 pounds with the program—started endorsing it. Since then, more and more celebrities and civilians alike have started using the Jenny Craig weight loss program to get into shape. Popular throughout the United States and Canada, the Jenny Craig weight loss program has also started to gain a following around New Zealand and Australia.

The Program

The Jenny Craig weight loss program essentially works by following good nutrition with rationed portions, as well as giving motivation for an overall lifestyle change. It provides participants with a comprehensively planned food guide to help weight loss and is specific to the fitness goals of each participant. The variety of weight loss plans available in the program is designed in such a way that a participant loses the extra pounds slowly but increasingly.

Your Meals

At the beginning, each participant is assigned a personal consultant. Each participant is then made to follow a specifically designed plan with meals coming from the company. Before reaching the halfway point of his fitness goal, every participant must purchase all his meals, prepackaged and specifically designed, from the company. Only by reaching the halfway point of his fitness goal will a participant be then allowed to cook his own meals at about 3 or 4 times per week. All meals cooked at home however will still need to follow the meals required and recipes included in the weight loss plan. In addition to the prepackaged meals, that include full meals as well as snacks and desserts, participants can also eat fruits and vegetables as well as low-fat dairy products that can be bought in stores. In addition to the pre-packaged meals and snacks or desserts, you will also be eating fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products that you purchase at your usual market.

The South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet Plan kind of sounds like a reality TV show or something, but it actually is a bona fide diet that millions swear by. The South Beach Diet is one of those new breed of diets that sees carbohydrates as the key to weight loss and increased health.

Where the South Beach Diet Plan veers from the similar path taken by the Atkins Diet is in recommending that your servings of meat are leaner. The first two weeks or so require a severe reduction in the amount of carbs, but over time you are increase it gradually.

In addition, the South Beach Diet Plan divides carbohydrates into good and evil, rather than recommending an across the board cutting back. According to the South Beach Diet Plan, the good carbs are those that contain high fiber as being high in the good kind of fat, as well as having a low glycemic index. This basically just means that these carbs more easily digested and absorbed by the body.

The South Beach Diet Plan is separated into three distinct phases, though it is recommended throughout all three that ingesting the bad kind of fat be limited.

Phase I lasts two weeks, during which dieters avoid high-glycemic carbohydrates. These include such favorites as candies, bread, and sugar as well as those foods typically much easier to avoid such as potatoes, cereals and grains.

The idea of this two week phase is for the body to reduce its insulin resistance and start using its excess fat. But more on Phase I later.
